A Little About My Why

Seneca Summit - Certified Postpartum Doula, serving Salt Lake County and select areas in Tooele and Utah Counties

"Mothers need just as much care as a newborn, because they too have just been born."

Simply Mom Bailey

In a world of celebrated independence, entering into a role of interdependence is a huge adjustment. Emotions are high, low, and everything in between. You have healing to do, and your whole sense of self has shifted. You are learning new things daily, and getting used to caring for your sweet, but helpless little baby, or babies.

In 2021, I had my first child. New motherhood was something familiar and wonderful but also unexpected and confusing. It's hard not knowing what is normal and what isn't. It wasn't until 6 months later that I realized that I had been suffering with postpartum anxiety. When people asked to help, I shrugged it off, feeling the need to do it all on my own or risk the safety of my baby. I needed someone who had knowledge of the latest baby safety tips, or at least someone who would take care of my baby in the same way I would. I was constantly on the verge of breaking down and was only able to keep going because of the severe anxiety I would get if I stopped. I was falling apart and struggling to hold it all together. I was relying on my husband as my sole support. Resentment was building at him for not being able to take the load of all the problems of the three of us, even though I knew that wasn't fair and that he was adjusting too. I just needed more help than he could offer, as he was already doing all he could while working full-time and taking classes.

After going through these issues (and more), I felt an increasing drive to help mothers have a better postpartum experience than I did. So in 2022, I certified as a Birth Boot Camp Postpartum Doula. As a postpartum doula, I have studied and trained under other experienced doulas, childbirth educators, and an IBCLC. I do my best to be up to date on safety recommendations, and am continually studying about postpartum, babies, breastfeeding, and pregnancy. If I don't know the answer, I do my research and also have a network of doulas and birth workers that I can consult with. I finally feel like I have found my passion in life. And that is to love and serve mothers and families as they go through birth, postpartum, and beyond.
